Summer nights, 1974

Each night, we'd collect money from strangers to buy our pot. A few tokes and I’d feel like I was watching myself doing something I did earlier. It scared me but I chose to ignore all those drug statistics my teachers showed me. What could they know? We’re all in the same crowded boat anyway.
We'd pass a factory with symmetrically aligned windows, find some bricks, and give a toss. Giggling at the sweet sound of shattering glass, we'd dash away, tipping garbage cans as we ran like the wind (hooligan athletes, we were).

circa 1974 , L.A.
We grew our own
Around the orange tree
In the back of the unit
I dried mine in the oven
Packaged it
Sold it for textbooks
To C and D students
