laying in a mud puddle in the street

the word KITTEN written in permanent marker across my cheek
I’m here for you she screams – as she continues the backstroke – splashing dirt all over the newly washed car that sits In the driveway

chrome wheels – metallic pearl paint
bubbling
screaming
as the fire is doused with fuel

the fossil fuels are burning down
the house
the car
the green green grass of the rain forests
each blade
set aflame shriveling from the heat of the sun
as the ozone ever so slightly
burns away
each day

but she’s safe
in the mud puddle in the street
with the word KITTEN written across her cheek
rolling around
cooling herself down

down down baby
so sweet of a baby
