desperate love poem

I have longed, hungered, thirsted for you,
cried dry, burning tears for you,
prayed to a God that isnÂ’t mine,
defied the soft erosion,
the oblivion of time,
chased your shadow
through chaotic, sun-tormented streets,
silenced the street to hear your shadow speak.

I have conjured up your ghost above my bed,
brought myself to orgasm
with your picture in my head
and your name on my tongue.

I have watched you sleep,
pressed each curve of your body
into the soft mold of my memory.

I have named unborn children after you.

In your absence the sun
blurs all things into dust;
love and desire
melt into lust…

I wait for the day my thirst will be renewed.
