Violet9ish — I don’t usually comment on poems here (so many poems by so many people are excellent, I don’t feel like I can do them all justice) but since this is for a contest — I’d suggest you go with these five:

— “For My Parents” (as a parent myself, this really makes me think — I like the specific observations like the father’s books, and I like the natural, unpretentious use of language)

— “Lilacs”

— “Good Girl” (I like the line “burn me to ash to make me beautiful”, powerful and Plath-like)

— “Summer Skin” or “Waterfall” (it’s a toss up)

— “A Declaration of Beauty” (the hidden message is a nice touch)

Whatever decide, tell us if you win.
