not really shades of christianity. Just that this past event is never going to leave her- the mark is on her palm- a place that will always be right where she can see it, where anyone can see it. It’s almost like the scarlet letter, she may even be ashamed of it. The apron was just an image to establish class- she is continuously working. The baby and the apron establish an impression that she may be the only one in the house who does the work.
