Everyone’s Out to Get You

You rarely release your paranoia
In big dramatic scenes
You live it daily
In every situation
You dream up conspiracies,
Everyone’s out to get you and me
Aren’t they mama?
All souls being evil
All motivation is directly linked
To you of course
You’re still the center of your universe
I guess you never took the chance
To drop your childhood egocentricity
It wasn’t so bad
‘Til I was convinced
That everyone’s out to get you
Even me
Aren’t we mama?
I still clearly remember
The screaming in the hallway
The first time I heard you swear
The first time you entangled me
In an “out to get you” conpiracy
I grasped and grappled
With the ideas behind the logic
I never meant…
I didn’t know…
I was nine years old
You were twenty-nine
Raging screaming hitting
You’d do it ’til you puked
Then you’d wanna cuddle
I think the twenty years between us
Got flipped around real early
When you were bad off
I never knew if I was parent or child
The extreme times
I can figure out
I can brush them away and understand
But what really fucked me up
Is your trains of thought
I wasn’t made like you
But I was forced to comprehend
Your daily paranoia
Everyone’s out to get you
Even me
Right mama?
