where is summer going?

you could sense the tension,
and the twilight atmosphere
was not the same familiar
pleasant wind
there’s a hint of turning
and I envision the lazy beach
shifting in sand dune shivers
frothing waves that mimick flurried snow
drifts from frozen peaks and red,
brisque-rubbed cheeks
bring the winter middleman
who primes the fading fields
sanding down the rusty dust
oxidizing leaves and brittle branches
I’ve heard
that summer’s packed it’s bags
and is taking a trip to another hemisphere,
so soon to scorch and quick to go,
booked with axis obligations….
farewell warm and humid cricket nights!
somewhere,
a vinyard ripe with harvest
sweetly calls you.
