the most comfortable season (poetry challenge)

los angeles offers autumn half heartedly
hoping i dont remember
its broken promises

i feign a slower metabolism
wrapping up in a sweater
sweating on the 405

i turn on all my air condition
and invite over my nordic friends
for autumn themed quiet parties

we dim the lights early
drink port smoke cigarettes
i flip the switch on the gas fireplace

huddling close under blankets
we ingore the winding blur of traffic
and pretend its the windy blare of november

i turn down the thermostat to 50
we eskimo kiss
and fall to sleep

in los angeles
autumn remains
the most comfortable season

(it just takes a little doing)
