now, even though we are miles apart
remnants of laughter cling to my mouth
as i remember you
and the wanderings of my smile
there, in the space between our breathing.

this soul memory recaptured,
the rediscovery of myself beneath your palm–

in solitary moments,
my thoughts turn to you
(i know you so well)
and the things you whispered against my shoulder in the dark
i can still feel your slow grin
against my flesh
like you’re here, and
now is not the time for this

but when i try to stop…
