Midnight – It wakes me at night

It wakes me at night

Do you ever wake up screaming?

In the middle of the night
As you clutch your pillow and
Pull the blanket over your shaded eyes
To keep the cold midnight air from attacking your senses

Do you hear the bombs dropping outside your room?
Can you feel the sniper of freedom targeting?
Can you see the forces of freedom?
Can you feel the night when alight with the bombing?
That saves you?

Do you know where I sleep?
When I feel comfortable in my shirt
While everything falls away
And to disintegration

You are the eyes that I see
When I fall asleep
The burned visions
That I cannot recover
Pummel my senses
And draw me into your vision

Save me from myself
As I hearken toward freedom
And deny the expanse
And expense
That whatever war we wage
Must be fought
I cannot deny the wreckage
I cannot fathom the denial
Whilst we all drive
Throughout the country

Cold-blooded freedom
Sworn, worn
The backs of preachers
Adorn
The bloodiest of long ago
Remembering the days past

As the waves
They watched
The times they bought
Begged
Borrowed
Sold
Left to the ends’
Twixt a faerie pretends
It all ends
In the sea
The waves drown
Us all
Down in the moratorium
The sea rises to claim
The shell
Outward
