i spent weeks forgetting about you.
scraping past hours by my fingernails,
curled into balls,
the lotus retreats to bud.
i tried to fill my time
without you.
bathed in the firstlight of morning
learned to appreciate all that happens
when everyone else sleeps.
i even let you slip
into numbness,
slapping the ice of weariness
over the wound.
it melted in
and i almost let you die.
you were the last person
i thought i’d see.
we spent half the night in awkwardness;
half the night was
beautiful.
you told me you’d call
but i know you won’t.
[it’s saturday and i miss you]
