last friday night kiss of the blue ages

from where i am i can see the halo glow
of the white lights, hear drums that pound
the crowd into a frenzy, some hand bells
that seem to strike a chord all their own.
beneath those bleachers, once i wore a faded
levi’s jeans jacket, looked into your eyes
like it meant something, kissed you like
the last friday night kiss of the blue ages.
i never wanted to be anywhere other than there
at that moment. there’s a part of you that’s
still under there. i left long ago, you know?
you could always tell when i told sad lies.
