bumper crop pomes

As I relieved my pack
from the burden of me
and rested among the
sweet mountain heather,
two jays alighted upon
a branch above and
quite noisily began
chattering about the
unseasonably warm winter
just past and this year’s
bumper crop of blueberries,
most of which were rapidly
disappearing
down my belly.
