reflex song

I’ve got a reflex kicking
in the turret of my brain
somewhere from the bottom-most
moat of denegation
pulling me, telling me
“you can’t so easily
get over what is stranded in sensation”

I’ve got an omen whipping
at the tail of my spine
someplace where the twisting out
refuses to unravel
reminding me, hounding me
“it’s time to cut it loose
and let all mourning travel

a pinging pressure nicking
hobbling my knees,
the crossbridge drops and buckles under
batter rams of weakening
