saintly girl, dressed in white, stops to check her reflection
the mirror makes a move at her, she backs away and smiles
dodging bullets comes as easy as breathing
as easy as the melt of a ice cream on a hot day in summer
as easy as my eyes blink, even when i’m sleeping

insomnia and diet pills for breakfast
at the crack of dawn in another town
jesuits pound the pavement in search of new blood
to convert and pervert
so that their own quest will seem justified

spaces between parked cars fill up with the freaks of the night
they smoke their dope and shoot their shit
and lush themselves to sleep, huddling together
to keep out the pain and the cold
and the memories of a better time
