i couldn’t find you
when i really needed
your shoulder-
the left one,
where my head fits
so perfectly-
it was nowhere
to be found

so i left
and went home
fed up with everything
that this day brought
and everything
that you didn’t

you got back late
and said you’d been out
for a smoke
and were really sorry
that i couldn’t find you
and then you turned on the tv
and ended the apology,
full stop.

i left the room
and i don’t think
you even noticed
so engrossed as you were
in the tv guide channel
and the entertainment updates

but why should i care
when you so obviously
don’t
?
