Envy

A plastic bag,
caught in the fence,
scares the plastic birds.

The Oriental flowers
bow in the breeze
tangled up in the expert fingers of the fragile grass.

Perfect circles lined with rocks
hold planted pots that grin in late afternoon sun.

The greenhouse glass whips abstracted light
across the fountain waters that, so gently, bubble.

The topiary bush lies,
with its hypnotic, neon leaves,
against the fence, that is partially hidden,
with a miraculous and stretching Ivy.

And this garden is next to mine,
with its long, boring stretches of long, boring grass
and the dark brown shed, slanting, gently to the fence.
