For your creativity
like a Noah’s ark of pets or near pets
you put them all together in a song
weaving close encounters of the animal kind
into a blanket of choruses sung by angels
heaven is remembrance of those little devils
that touch us in so many ways
keeping life interesting and real
cycling through it all with love
unconditional and begging for more
our relationships with these animals
pure and unsullied by any earthly conditions
earthquakes and hurricanes, war and the media
don’t mean shit to my cat who naps on
and dreams of can openers and mouse tracks
and a friendly hand to rub the right spot
they do have a way of keeping us in touch
with reality and that is a blessing
so thankyou cats and dogs and birds and
fish and rats and toads and snails
and thankyou jota for reminding us of that and them
