“TWO FALL FROM THE DECK”
by magic_love

and flutter like lazy butterflies
down onto the moonlit grass
She hunches down
pushing a stray curl away
that had fallen in front
of her gaze

Her hand reaches out
a small hand
the oval rose rock
nestled by four silver leaves
tinkles against
the moon frog
hiding underneath

Breath held for a moment
her gaze caught by the stars
quickly, quietly
she turns the first card over

The magician

And at once her senses sharpened
the scent of warm rich earth
fills her
the rustle of the leaves
the quiet cricket song

She smiles

resting again
squatting on barefeet
she rocks a little
she is aware of things watching
the forest is alive

Beside the magician the
other card rests
Face down on the earth

The woman knows what it is
before she turns it over
a silent prayer within
her own
the very air alive
with suspense

Her inner self swells
as she reaches out with
two fingers
quietly
softly
turning the card over

The High Priestess

The crescent moon
kisses her brow

She smiles

Breathes into the night
twinkle in the eye
palms upturned
still crouching
she rises
arms outstretched to
the stars

The earth awakened

she turns
picking up the cards
and chuckling softly
under her cloak
she walks quietly
out of the clearing
the grass
caressing
her bare feet
