Hey Levi,

Listen…great site. I’ve just spent all of Christmas afternoon educating myself about the Beat Generation.

I’m not a writer (though maybe someday as I continue to collect experience on this world). I’m actually a sailor if I’m anything. I’d like to briefly give you my story if you’ll indulge me.

I have been intrigued mainly with Kerouac for some time. His name comes up in most of the reading that I do (most of it is travel writing). So I’ve been meaning to sit down and figure out just who this guy was (I was a Science major); I know enough and have read enough to realize the he was something something of a Kurt Cobain character, as you put it. The other major push towards Kerouac for me is this: I’ve recently purchased my first sail boat (life-long dream). Everyone tells me that its name, Beatnik, is very appropriate for me. So I had to find out why.

LitKicks has helped me do that. Thanks. It’s a great, yet simple site. I always find that on internet searches you get too much info thrown at you that you can’t weed through. Yours is very well put together.

My plan is to read some Kerouac. The one I really want to read is On the Road, but I sence that this won’t be a passing fascination for me, that I’ll be a true fan, so I’m going to start with The Town and the City.

Thanks again. I really hope you don’t see this posting as some freak out there flying off at the keyboard. I simply want to say that your site is excellent and you’ve really turned someone onto Kerouac and potentially the rest of the Beats.

Onward,
Shane
