Before Sunrise

At sunrise, our love was spent,
Our passion drowned in troubled sea;
The sands of time – incontinent,
Drew your gaze away from me.

But how your eyes lit up the night!
Two lighthouses, with godly grace
Exposed the awe-inspiring sight
Of the sea – your radiant face.

I sailed your ocean far and wide,
Hugging coastlines north and south,
When finally, succumbing to the tide,
A gale swept me towards your mouth.

And now, when summer love is gone,
In all my dreams you visit me;
My memory, having now outshone
The dying light of reality.

And when, I pray, my lat breath dies,
Will I live forever – before sunrise.
