Vacuity

Here she stands at the edge of the world
staring out across a million light years of emptiness
SHE SCREAMS OUT with every breath of her soul
and leans into the night longing for a reply
She realizes that extra 8 inches won’t help her
in an infinite dreamscape of arbitrary points
With teary eyes she looks down like a jumper
on a roof with a final destination
As if direction mattered in this topsy turvey world
It all melds together in some undecipherable image
at the back of the mind, like a Dali painting she once read
If you stare long enough you are bound to go insane and become overwhelmed with feelings of loss
She must have spent an eternity in that moment
frantically dreaming for an escape, as if she could
just leap from the Earth.
Up through the stratosphere and out into the
unknown, floating through time and space like
driftwood in an ocean of self-doubt.
Once part of a great battleship, now she is just debris
