mad angelic bum on the train
wearing santa’s borrowed hat

sings me a medley that should confuse
sweet skeltonesque manner smiles me

happybirthdayhappyanniversarytoapril
amenhe’sgotthewholeworldinhissmile

tells me about his latest date
happy playing the crowd
happy
with what life has dealt
(schmife has schmelt)
hard times schmard times
(his eyes say)
out last night with a good jewish girl
(his own age)
he had tea she had seltzer
her husband belts her
stayed out to eleven
and it was heaven

almost a monotone but sadsweet
sweetsad
walking through the train car to car

he is the soul of the little tramp
chaplin waddling up the car sans cane
