Butterscotch Boy

Sycamore shaded
crowded
community
park

Summer green grass
abundant with
surprise filled
picnic baskets

Patriotic refrains
float on a
warm summer
breeze

A voyeur
I blissfully watch
my
butterscotch boy

Corn silk hair
merges with
his bare warm
browned skin

His too big
red and white-stripped shorts
announce the Fourth of July

My butterscotch boy’s
excited blue eyes
dance with
anticipation

The rushing rocky creek
spills the coveted crawdads
towards the enchanted
children

My butterscotch boy
innocently oblivious
focuses on his
revered catch

Sand pail swings from
his creamy browned arms
sloshing the ‘dads
to the earth

bare feet carry
my butterscotch boy
back to the dark woods
and the cold water creek

His contentment and security
apparent as he fills the pail
yet again
with his crustaceous gems

My butterscotch boy
