New Beginnings

The nights are getting cooler and
darkness is swallowing up more light
as the lazy days of summer fade with the heat.

There is a desperate attitude about,
everyone trying to live the final days of the season
with passion and excitement, fine memories
to survive through the frozen, merciless winter.

Moments captured in time,
festivals, ballgames, picnics in the park,
a fine beer on the patio.

Such simple pleasures-keys to satisfaction-
to fulfillment of the soul.
Leaving it all behind and letting summer days and
summer nights guide the way.

Overtaking the mind, wonderful madness showers you
with beautiful thoughts and emotions.
That summer dress, dark skin, bare arms.

The scorching sun creating easy relaxation
through subtle weariness.
The feel of summer consuming you like a fire,
overwhelming your senses.

Blinded by the brilliance you submit
and happily let yourself get lost
in the flames.

Altered perceptions, it’s lovely to be carefree for a while,
so wonderfully cleansing, nature’s annual baptism.
Maybe this is why we live here and subject ourselves to the snow and sleet; the anticipation of new life.

Summer savior keeping us hopeful, optimistic.
Smiling right through to the end
of another Canadian summer.
