I feel Funky.
Not shake your hips funky,
Get down to the groovy beat,
But Funky
Like that month old cottage cheese
Behind the lettuce in your refrigerator
Everyone opens it up and just puts it back

……………………………………..
Last week I walked.
Around all the blocks, aimlessly
I told myself that I was looking
for an “answer”
but I was really looking for that
magnetic feeling I felt while swimming
in wine, looking at you and
your flute.
I stuck instantly to the shiny metal.
……………………………………..

the guys at the bar asked me
“what are you doing here?”
I must of looked through them
Or with squinty eyes..i mumbled “what?”
My fingers tingled as you walked past.
They kept me entertained with something
About smoking pot.
Nowadays, people think they can tell
by the hat you
Are wearing. Funny.
Last week in metaphysics my
Professor called it the thinking cap.

Someone is giving me mixed signals.
……………………………………….

I spoke with you outside.
Spicy, you said over and over.
Not spicy like the pepper I ate off
The bush at the farm last week
But spicy, when licking the sweat off
Your upper lip.
But no sweat, the music was spicy.
No, my hat was spicy.
You were magnetic.
…………………………………………
I feel funky
It started not too long ago
While I was looking for answers
To the questions I never understood.
Walking where I needed to.
I came across his car that day
My nose filling with the smell
Of stale smoke, my dirty boy.
all seems lost now,
Magnetism gone wrong.
Left in my fridge to turn funky
Opened and put back.
How long will I let this fester?
was this really the answer i was looking for
………………………………………

I saw you come over last night
I heard the rap you woo with
I made up beats with my hands
Across your back.
I stuck.
We spoke over tea,
Swinging over poured concrete
That I had labored over for
6 months. pouring..repouring.
It had set, finally, apart from
The moisture and the questioning.
Just when I was beginning
To wonder how things were so funky
“you cant be funky”
dont you remember saying that?
and you were right
its all too spicy.
