you never fail
to hurt me

whether it’s my emotions
that take the hit
or some other,
more visible,
part of me

you leave me bruised
nonetheless

but still
i go back to you
when you ask for me
because we can be
so right together
that i must believe
that the wrong
is a mistake

but every time
i get another scar
to add
to my collection
