whiteware

i think we’re together now
we just bought whiteware
we stand arm in arm in the kitchen
admiring our new dishwasher

& the hindu godess, kali writhes in my mind
the gypsies stop dancing
India pulls my starched lapel

I stare at the mirror
mumbling “dear whoever’s out there
I now own white ware”

these words reverberate in my skull like a train in a tube station

a bathroom is a lonely desolate place
filled with soap and gleaming surfaces

and i think of my lover
she has breasts and lovely hips
a great personality and we laugh a lot
actually i’m very happy
here’s an unfamiliar coat
it’s a bit stiff, but with wear
i think i could get used to it

choose love, choose whiteware.
