comparisons are indeed odious

hemingway was insanely jealous of fitzie because he had to work so hard while f scott’s talent came so natural
and he seemed to squander it

hemingway loathed faulkner and couldn’t understand steinbeck
and his working class thing

hemingway really hated james jones (from here to eternity, the thin red line, whistle). why? well, just imagine, a young man returns from war and dares to write about his experiences and the effect on his generation, hmmmm. sounds too familiar for ernie, someone encroaching on his turf

but writers are people, too, with insane egos
hemingway hated himself, always having to write the next big thing, thrown into a depression right after the exhaustion of just writing the last big, big thing

so what did he do?

after the electroshock therapy, and the writer’s block

Papa blew his brains out, that’s what he do
