I’m not sure if you’re still checking this, but this ‘vicious-loop’ idea has always been how I think of that conflict. But I recently heard it claimed that terrorism by Palestinian extremists isn’t simply tied to the occupation; it would continue unabated even if Israel pulled out of every settlement, since the extremists will not be satisfied with anything less than Israel’s destruction.

I don’t think I believe this, but if it’s true, it would put the ‘loop’ in a different light, I suppose.
