Simple information labels and starvation wages

Have just read the Anita Roddick book ‘Take it personally’ regarding globalisation and was horrified by the sweatshop starvation wages that many of our daily clothes and goods are still made under.

As a consumer I feel I have little choice when out shopping as I don’t even know sometimes where the good was produced or how.

I believe we should all have a right to know the hourly wage of the human beings that makes our products. This could be easily displayed on a label. ie ’39 cents per hour – Mexico’ or ‘$2 an hour – Sri Lanka’.

This would give consumers power to choose and buy with more peace of mind.

Can anyone suggest how you could get a law like this passed or suggest the problems or downfalls attached to this concept?
