as is the case quite often, the artist can/should be separated from his art. I’ve never listened to Toby but from what I hear he’s pretty good when he’s not advocating lynching as a substitute for justice.

But people like Toby Keith, Ann “kill their leaders and convert them to christianiy’ and “all liberal are traitors” Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Joe Scarborough, Michael Savage Wiener, et al. hate people like mtmynd and myself. Truly hate us. If it’s all an act, it’s a bad one and if it’s pandering for ratings and book sales, it’s inexcusable. And when someone hates you, practically wishes you dead, (I’m not sure if Coulter considered this when labelled liberals traitors, but treason is punishable by death in the US)it’s really, really hard to come back at them with love or even maintain a bit of equinamity.

There are things that I can accept as just a difference of opinion. I, like most everybody else, secretly believes that the world would be a better place if everybody just believed what I believed and acted accordingly. But I’m smart enough to know that that’s stupid egoism, and I don’t try and force my beliefs on anyone else. But some people don’t see it that way, and think that everybody should hold their believes and they’re willing use any means necessary to achieve this. (As Ice-T once rapped “Freedom of speech . . . but watch what you say”)Toby Keith, from what I’ve read, believes in the freedom to believe what Toby Keith believes, and nothing else. That makes him a dickhead. But I also believe in the right of dickheads to be dickheads, unless they cross the line into harming others, and then they get a whuppin’. There are probably more intelligent and effective ways to get that message across, but sometimes you’ve just had enough of being called a dickhead yourself and you temporarily lose it, and yell back. Sometimes politeness is a handicap.
