Subject: [vfp-chaptercontacts] To get you through Memorial Day

i take you very seriously and honor your ability to be sarcastic and creative….

my woman vet friend lives in oregon and is moving down here to tampa bay to be a part of our local peace vets group/ her daughter lives here/ very active and serious, but light hearted at times. my only intent also.

another post from her:
30 things you have to believe to be a Republican today:
1 Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a criminal act, unless you’re a conservative radio talk-show host. Then it’s an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

2 The United States should get out of the United Nations, but our highest national priority is enforcing UN resolutions against Iraq. Now, the UN should come into Iraq to clean up our mess.

3 HMOs, drug companies and insurance companies have the interest of the public at heart.

4 “Standing Tall For America” means firing your workers and moving their jobs to India or China.

5 A woman can’t be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multinational corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation
6 Jesus loves you and shares your hatred of homosexuals, people of color, other religions and Hillary Clinton.

7 Corporate Welfare is right. Welfare for the poor is wrong.

8 “Leaving No Child Behind” is fine as long as we don’t fund it.

9 Appointing judges to the bench in the middle of the night or when Congress is in recess is the American way.

10 Torturing, humiliating and/or killing prison inmates is just like a harmless fraternity prank and also the American Way.

11 No other nation is allowed to have “weapons of mass destruction” without UN inspections, except the United States of America, because war is preferable to negotiation and mediation.

12 If condoms and sex education are kept out of the schools, adolescents won’t have sex. Also, forcing children to have children will stop them from getting pregnant.

13 A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long time allies, then demand their cooperation in an illegal occupation with troops and money.

14 Providing schools and health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care for all Americans is socialism

15 Global warming and tobacco’s link to cancer is unproven junk science, but creationism should be taught in all schools.

16 Holding uncharged suspects in prison indefinitely without a lawyer or a trial is the American way when we are at war.

17 The President can suspend the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and adherence to International Law when we are at war.

18 A President lying about a “blow job” is an impeachable offense. A President lying to enlist American support for an illegal invasion and occupation of an unarmed country in which thousands die, is solid “defense” policy.

19 Trade with Cuba is wrong, because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to the spirit of international harmony.

20 A President has the right and authority to tear up treaties that the United States has signed, like the Geneva Conventions, the Kyoto Treaty, the Test Ban Treaty and the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty.

21 Ancient Forests are only good for the board feet of timber we can cut down. The clean air, clean water, wildlife habitat, beauty and CO2 absorption is not as important as wood for toilet paper and timber jobs. Fishing jobs are less important than timber jobs.

22 Group sex and drug use are degenerate sins unless you someday run for governor of California, as a Republican.

23 Government should relax all regulation of Big Business and Big Money, but crack down heavily on individuals who use marijuana to relieve the pain of illness.

24 The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veteran’s combat pay and health benefits. No bid contracts for private corporations that can pay unaccountable mercenaries $90,000 to do the jobs that our accountable military is paid $12,000 to do, has to all be paid for by the American taxpayer. Corporation’s having private armies is un-American.

25 Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him with chemical and biological weapons, but he was a bad guy when Bush’s daddy needed to make war on him. Saddam was a good guy when Cheney did business with him and now he is a bad guy again with Bush’s economy in the tank and he needed a “we can’t find Bin Laden” diversion
.
26 Driving gas hogs like SUVs and Humvees doesn’t really hurt the environment. Besides, if we need more oil, we can just invade an oil rich country to get more. Investing in any alternative forms of energy or transportation takes too much time, energy and brains.

27 The public has a right to know about Hillary’s cattle trades, but George Bush’s driving record, alcoholism, close ties to the Bin Laden family, and real evasion of military service is none of our business.

28 The Constitution bans gay marriage and allows the tear gassing and arrest of peaceful protesters.

29 The Patriot Act allows censoring of news, censoring of the Internet and even censoring of pictures of American soldiers returning in honored flag draped coffins. This is all good, because we don’t want Americans to see or hear about the real cost of war.

30 The United States is not special because of its commitment to the rule of law, its system of checks and balances, its distrust of concentrated power and its belief in openness and democracy. It is special because it has more bombs, guns and nuclear weapons than anyone else does. Other Nations should fear us, not admire us for our generosity and desire for peace.
