Crash

The crash was horrific. Time slowed as if I would appreciate the twisting metal as it punctured my senses.

Lights flashing around me. Hands are probing me. I gradually distinguish voices.

“God, this is bad. He’s banged up. This won’t do at all.”

“Check his vitals one more …”

In the haze I can see my kids. I feel warm. I’ll see them again. I’m going to hold them and never let them go. I strain to hear as the voices drift back and forth.

“Well, the ambulance is on the way.”

“Shit. Not much time. Which is worth more… the kidney or the heart?”
