Animal Power of Drums(PC)

A piece composed by the Grateful Dead full of the lush spontaneity of live performance, known only as drums. When nothing else is seen, why call it by another name. The raw
skins protrude the vibrations into the soul. An amorphous platform of ground-breaking, mind-blowing sounds which flows into rigorous ethnic experimentation, handed down by
our African neighbors. Painted faces of a stoned, tripping oppulence. Calls of all kind: The dance goes on after the song has set in the sun’s dusk. As the needle weaves the thread, so does the rhythm change with the same vigor
and poise. Whether of a story or music, so as the needle with the rhythm will change, ending only in our own end.
New thuds, new sounds!! Synclavairs and bongos are broken in as the trapsets take a rest. They inevitably blend, as all the voices of the world are but one in the song.
The song is a life. Not a journey, but an ending. One beat is anticipated when another takes you aback as if in a haze of never ending discovery and euphoria. Dubious eyes are cast to the water and caution is thrown to the wind. They are innocent outlaws. A life cycle of newborn song, then to grow, then to die but never forgotten. So many will not grasp the moment but perhaps they never wished to. They are wise fools to turn their eyes away. Me thinks they look between the gaps in their fingers. There is more to see than meets the eye and more to inhale than drugs of any kind. There is much more to hear than
a drum solo.
You feel your own heart beat with everyone else’s. Smiles, hugs and kisses are shared as joints and there is never a short supply. In an outside world where very little
makes sense, nothing need be explained within this universe. No gimmicks beyond the people and the music. No chart toppers or music videos or endless groupies, over
expensive tickets or empty lyrics and hollow instruments. No cries for attention from the real world of the bleak, concrete and absolute.
To dance to drive and to listen. Nothing else is required. Not a slick haircut, or a piece of paper, a pretty girlfriend, not even your own car. Someone else’s is good enough. It is a life and not a hobby. A yearning and not a choice. Grinning faces, giggling, rosy cheeks, buses, pooling, wandering, crashing and doing it all again. An enigma with no need of purpose beyond happiness. There are no serpents because it is not a paradise, just a life. Not working, not talking, just being. To exist is not to live. Living in the never ending freedom flight. The whole world and nothing all at once. There need be no direction in a world without any, but there is joy reguardless. The simple pleasures scare them, but not us, and concrete jungles
can only provide so much, with smoke and straight lines blocking the now shadowy brilliance of countless lost worlds. Our minds might be clouded but they are free from the fog of despair in the song and it’s dance. There is bliss in the world but also transcendence, dedication, and social consciousness. As well as violence and noise. The perfect microcosm of the yin and yang in our world through unending song-unending life. All fans-I tell you-it’s our own new world What to do when the working system no longer works. Come and ask. Perhaps we can help and perhaps not
but the experience is always of learning. The drums vibrate the thoughts of those who listen. See the country. Drive the car. Meet the people and feel the drums. Transcend
yourself. I’ll be on the road ‘till death takes me from it. Some will feel the drums forever and nothing more. Others will move on, never returning. “Most people don’t like black
licorice. But those who like it really like it”-Jerry Garcia. “Bliss lies in the nature of the experience and the nature of the person experiencing it”-Thomas Wolfe. You might not want to but you won’t be sorry you did. In the long run. The choice is yours to make but whatever we do let’s not take too long. You never know where it will go and you’re not sure where it will lead. The road that is the secret passage way of life to discover, behold and open. The song fades in ripples but a new one replaces it. The message is new, and the intent will be kept the same if you care. Find yourself anew each minute in a different song. Absorb the new harmonies that keep the original spirit and take on the new that expands the meaning. The story is a never ending learning cycle of musical life growth. Not only far from over but never ending. “The sixties aren’t over yet. Not until the fat lady gets high”-Ken Kesey
