is walking around in the desert. Alone. He’s lost and thirsty. And on his last leg; the sun is really beating down on him. out of the blue, he hears a snake. The snake hisses “little boy, little boy come closer” The little boy, with rock in hand, looks at the snake but keeps his distance. “Why? what do you want?” asks the boy. “Little boy” the snake hisses “Come here, i can help you and you can help me”

“How?” asks the little boy. “Don’t you see?” says the snake. “I know where water is and you can help me by taking me to a shaded spot. i need shade now. i just shed my skin. Put me in your pocket and i will show you”

“How do i know you won’t bite me?” asks the boy.

“I’m weak. I won’t bite you” swears the snake. “Trust me. or we will both die”

The little boy drops his rock and picks up the snake. Puts it in his pocket and off they go. Soon they come upon a murky river. But a river none the less. The boy jumps for joy and reaches into his pocket to thank the snake.

the snake bites him.

As the little boy lies there dying, moaning and crying, he asks the snake “why?”

The snake responds: “you knew what i was when you put me in your pocket”
