…sprawled on his back His arms were stretched out to either side, and his hands dug into the cheap green shag carpet. Outside the rain pounded and splashed on the black tar of the parking lot, making the leaves of the neighborhood trees dance. The sky was a menacing grey black. The wind suddenly gusted through the electric air ripping and shredding the trees. These were dangerous climactic conditions. Stone White loved days such as these. He lay flat on his back in his apartment. The shades were open, curtains drawn back, windows open, with only a screen to keep out the black hissing spitting day. The intensity of the storm forced a spray of rain through the screen and drops landed on Stone’s pale forehead. The rain felt cool and refreshing. His brown black eyes stared unfocused in the direction of the ceiling overhead. He lay there inert in a dreamlike state of semi-consciousness. The deluge abruptly stopped. There was a perfect calm. A tentative radiance crept into the room. In the sudden startling lambency Stone was struck by a vision. The ceiling began to spark and then it was gone and a vast pale blue sky was ethereal and limitless above him. Slowly, two huge needles descended from the sky and the sharp points landed deep in the bend of either arm. Stone looked left then right at the steel needles imbedded in the soft flesh of his arms where the veins meshed and were thick. He felt neither pain nor horror. His eyes widened. A third needle, larger and more conical than the other two, was falling from the sky. Stone watched breathlessly as the third needle descended and plunged into his body just below the heart. The needles from the sky began sucking out all of Stones’ juices and fluids leaving him with a delicious vacant sensation. The needles sucked up his blood, his feelings, his fears and ennui, his guilt, his tears and his nameless dreads. He was an emotionless carcass pinioned by the three sharp steel needles stretching forever into the sky. His eyes were wide; he was very still. The points were so sharp; it was no intrusion. He drifted back to sleep.
