yeah. you heard right. i am a 31-year-old orphan. i was disowned by my parents & ostracized from the family this past March 15th. It came as sort of a shock to me when my parents actually called me up to discuss some of my writing, because, you see, they rarely, if ever, read any of my work. But they just happened to read the issue of BABEL Magazine that this interview ran in. Needless to say, they flipped out.
My mom was in tears, calling me things like “drunken pervert” & “sick-sick bastard”, while my dad wouldn’t even talk to me on the phone. He sent me an e-mail the next day with the subject heading: ASHAMED.
So I took a deep breath & opened that e-mail up. It said:
“Guess I’ll see you on Springer someday!!!”
And that was that. I’d been instantly ostracized. My parents took a page from good old George W. & implemented their own swift version of “Shock & Awe”, severed all ties, & left me floundering in the urban decay of Dayton, Ohio. And when they do something like this, it’s permanent. Over the years, I had seen them do it to my uncle and two grandfathers.
all ties severed.
all contact terminated.
WHAM!
BAM!
I’m an ORPHAN MAN!
