I do agree that some of the posts here are overloaded with private jokes and inside references that mean nothing to readers who have not hung around here a long time. My usage reports show that there are many, many people who read the boards who never create membernames or post messages, and this site is for them as well as for the regulars. There are also many first-time visitors who are probably turned off by the “inside” stuff.

But I’m not TOO worried about this. I think it’s a fact of life for any internet community. I would like to ask the regulars to continue to try to use the Mindless Chatter board for their friendly back-and-forth, rather than Utterances. This was the reason Mindless was created in the first place, and many of the regulars have already been very good about using that board, rather than this one, as the “hang out place”. Utterances is where first-time visitors go, and I’d like them to find at least a good proportion of relevant literary-minded posts here.
