Hippies grew

out of the Beat culture but Kerouac is quoted somewhere saying he dislikes hippies and did not want to be associated with them. In my mind, at least, there is a difference. Perhaps Ginsberg became a hippie but Kerouac never did and neither did Burroughs. Cassidy, though he drove the FURTHER bus, i do not consider him a hippie and, from reading ECLAT, I don’t think he considered himself one. He seems kind of lost.
