actually, I kinda just jumped right into art direction from my production artist position (at a different job) I got right out of college. I was a production artist (what invaluable experience) for 10 months, then I interviewed for an art director position at an in-house ad agency for a publishing company and to my surprise (considering my limited experience) I got the job! I was immediately plunged into many things I had never had to do before…design ads for magazines that had a national circulation, concept the core of all-encompassing marketing campaigns, coordinate large photoshoots involving many people and props (had to hire a stylist), layout, manage and do the production for 20-page catalogs with mulitple versions!!!

You could imagine how overwhelmed I felt that first year as art director as green as I was at 22 and fresh out of school. But it was sink or swim, and I was determined to swim. And I did. So, I have never really just been a graphic designer, save for when I did an internship for my college for nearly 2 years (I was their first intern), though I have almost always done stuff on the side, freelance. And really, I am just starting to do more web design…just the front end stuff, not the back end, yet.

I don’t get to do enough design, though…I am often too busy directing everything and managing the office, practically…doing the production for jobs or sending them out…I do get some projects occassionally that are fun. I just want to design…I’m tired of managerial crap, really, tired of other people having all the fun. I feel like my graphic designer adolescence whizzed past me in a flash. I grew up too fast.

I will try to find a way to post some of my work. I’ll let you know.

thanks
