To Come

To Come…

It started out as a Rock & Roll day with you
And ended up as a Norah Jones night by myself
After lazing in bed all Sunday with you
Like a much more decadent Adam & Eve
Always undressed and hair in a sweaty knotted mess
But it was a soulful day nonetheless.
Twisting up the bed sheets
In my too hot apartment
With the icy windows frozen open
And the winter sun finally touching our too white bodies
And if anybody saw us now
I don’t think they would realize
That we were really just trying to rub our
Hearts together while
Listening to The White Stripes covering MC5
It was just early morning and the best was still yet to come….

We started off drinking hot chocolate and
Eating sour cream & onion chips for breakfast
Fattening up on sex and love
Hiding and seeking
Seeking and finding
Our own selves reflected immersed
Deep in the eyes and the starlit puddles
Of each other
We were writing new languages.
Glimpsing new visions.
Developing new programs
Composing new musics
Initiating new rituals and
Soaking in the big bath tub together while
Listening to The White Stripes covering Beefheart
It was only morning and
We were both yet to come…. though not far off now….

And then it’s suddenly darkening evening and
You’re already gone before I even realize
That I was going to cut your hair
And that we didn’t eat
Nearly enough ice cream together.
Now I’ve got to straighten up this little love nest
This whole place is in a sweaty mess
But it’s amazing what you can forget
While drunk on orgasm wine
And it’s just as amazing the little things you remember like
Listening to The White Stripes covering Dylan
And what a soulful delight it is to get through the mourning and then
To just hold you and come.
