Part poem, part rant, 100% adolescent bitterness.

Teen Idles
ItÂ’s a sad, sad thing to watch a close friend die,
Because little by little something inside of us is sputtering out.
Lights going out, friends falling down,
Drugs, sex, suicide, and a massive attack of indifference.
Disconnected almost completely from the rest of this supposed to be sane world
Always weÂ’re alone, even when we try to come together,
Something is closed and buried and itÂ’s keeping us apart
And I wish I knew just what was wrong but it hurts me just the sameÂ…
Sometimes I donÂ’t want to wake up and sometimes I want everyone to wake up
But does any of this help anybody?
We are not the children that we had a right to be.
WeÂ’re something different, something that has never been done
And that should not have happened.
WeÂ’re so close-minded and small to everybody else,
We think weÂ’re the only one whoÂ’ve got it right.
Some twisted form of Buddhism, right clothes, right class, right friends,
Right thoughts, right party, right disrespect for those different from you,
Such prejudice and cruelty and cold-heartedness makes me sick inside
To see what these parents have done to their children.
WeÂ’ve had no chance to be what we want, we have to get into college, get a job,
Get good grades, get on the team, get into the class,
Become good little cogs in the American machine
And we donÂ’t know where else we can go
Somebody please help us, we donÂ’t want to do this anymore.
I see people all the time who arenÂ’t really with me
TheyÂ’re just sitting, thereÂ’s too much going on,
We canÂ’t handle the entire world at the same time,
Just give us a minute to rest, please, just for a minute,
No phone calls faxes emails instant messages
Due dates deadlines practices meeting or sessions
Leave us alone for just a few hours, thereÂ’s too much structure, we have to sleep,
We have no escape, no downtime, just accomplishment after achievement
After goal orientation and we canÂ’t stand any more
Please donÂ’t make us run any farther than we already have
IÂ’ve seen too many fall today.
