i just fire it onto the page, with little pre-thought, and no editing after (except for typos and what not, and maybe a tiny tweek here and there). Afterwards, I might come back an re-read it, because, well, just to see exactly what ive writen. “Automatic writing” is close to the mark, in that i have to return to it to see what i’ve done. However, sometimes i write slower, and what would normally take me five minutes might take ten or fifteen, but still i tend to just do one draft and leave it. I’ve never spent days or weeks on a poem except when i was 16/17 and reading yeats and Kavanagh and Wuthering Heights.
