Gregory Corso and I went to Frankfurt, Germany to sell Bibles and encyclopedias to the GIs stationed there. In order to get a $25 advance on commissions we had to get a
$10 downpayment. Often we laid out the downpayment from our own pocket as the guys were always broke at the end of the month. We left envelopes for them to send us the $10 in after payday. Back in Paris in the “Beat Hotel” two weeks after payday Gregory would send out dunning letters to the “deadbeats”. Each one was a great poem and I wish I had retained copies.
