I thought this was a great read. I didn’t know anything much about Baudelaire except he’s mentioned in my favourite film, Withnail & I. I think the writer/director, Bruce Robinson, was a huge fan. I also knew Rimbaud was a fan but that’s all.
I like when people can write an essay/biography and make it readable as well as informative. I haven’t been reading much lately but I think this has inspired me to read some bauldelaire, so, thank you, Niblo. Nice work.
I also read the Edgar Allan Poe biog. by slurpy. This is linked to from the Baudelaire piece.
Again, I didn’t know much about him either. I didn’t even know he was an american. I knew about the raven. I think Lou Reed “covered” it? I think it was Lou Reed anyway.
Both great pieces of writing and they’ve given me two poets to check out at the bookshop tomorrow. 🙂
