Religions are for the unawakened or unenlightened seeking realization or God, or… All religions, worldwide, have begun from the words/actions of a person attempting to create a path for others to experience “god” or whatever word we may choose (realization?). Note that Siddartha was not a Buddhist, nor was Jesus a Christian, nor do I think Mohammed called himself a Muslim… these lables were given/accepted by the faithful followers of these people.

However, I do think that the basic premises behind all religions is to offer a path to the same goal – that of ‘finding God” , or “Self Realization”, “achieving Nirvana” or the hundreds of other words given to the identical experience that the others have had.

If you were to, say. take an apple out within a crowd of different people thruout the world you would hear different names for the same fruit, but the fruit would be known by its shape, color, taste… the names are less-important than the actual experience of holding and tasting the fruit itself. These same people within the froup would return home and share their experience with others, each individual unique within themselves would describe the apple experience using not only different sounds, but different words… a natural phenomenon.

Re: your final line: I would choose over the actuality of Jesus over the myth. I think too much has been written about him to say he was a non-person. A link I put up on Doreen’s reply I find very interesting… have you been there yet? I don’t think the endless discussions on whether Jesus was an historical figure or the son of God is near as important as what the man has said, his words and the words of other enlightened indiviudals.
