Parent message is 7997 in his books buk often derides the beats, esp. ginsberg, and burroughs. he did write an admiring story about cassady (in “notes of a dirty old man”), was pals with harold norse….his attitude seems complex. i’ve read some positive things he wrote, esp. in his letters, regarding their liberating influence, their spirit….but he had more than his share of contempt for the clubbishness, the academic associations, the politics and their homosexuality. was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this. he was mortified to be associated with or referred to as a beat.
