is interesting
each one is an extension of dh lawrences ego and ‘personality’- even the female characters, which he saw as part of his ‘feminine’ side

it is often said, however, that rupert birkin is a self-portrait of lawrence

the novel is very erotic – sex and sexuality are explored to the full – abeit in a subtle, psychological way. the four main characters each have a distinct, interesting, individual sexual ‘personality’

having said this, sex is secondary to the theme of love, it is used as an arena in which lawrence explores the psyche of the characters

what amazes me about this book is that it there are so many levels and layers to it

the whole thing feels very surreal, almost like a dream
