I liked some parts better than others. The parts narrated by Alexi (was that his name? The guide?) were awesome; I loved how his English got steadily better and more eloquent throughout the course of the book. His last letter was so poignant. Great stuff. Other parts of the book, though — the scenes narrating the life of the villagers — didn’t grab me as much.

I’ll probably read his next book, though. He’s a really promising author.
